It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerardus (Gerry) Van Hoorn on Oct 29th at the age of 94.
Gerry will be forever missed by his loving wife Lily, daughters, Mary, (John), Jane (Ewen), Trish (Joe) and Terra (John), stepson Lester, grandchildren Stephanie, Katherine, Erin, Nicole, Jenny, Marysa, Nathanael, Peter, Mark, David and Michael, 14 great grandchildren, as well as his sisters Toos, Loes, Riet, Nel and Anneka and brother Ton, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gerry was preceded in death by his parents Cornelis and Elisabeth, his brothers Alex, Jan and Cees, and sisters Dina and Bep. He will be greatly missed but his spirit will live on in them all.
Gerry was born in the Netherlands on December 16, 1929 as one of 12 children. When Gerry was a child of 10 years old, Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands and Gerry endured five brutal years of war. In 1949-1951, Gerry served as a soldier in the Royal Netherlands Army.
In 1953, Gerry and his first wife Henny immigrated to Toronto, Canada where they raised their four daughters. After he established himself in Canada, Gerry started a successful appliance repair business. In 1998, Gerry married Lily Movilla and helped raised her son.
Gerry was passionate about traveling, music and electronics. He was an early adopter of computer technology and loved his cell phone as much as a teenager. Gerry was known for his sense of humour, positive outlook and gentle nature.
