Gioacchino Romanello, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 84 surrounded by his great loves. Born on February 11, 1940 to Alfonso Romanello and Maria Guida Brio in the beautiful little town of Alessandria della Rocca, Agrigento, Sicily, Italy. Gioacchino’s journey through life was defined by his love for his wife, his family, dedication, respect and kindness.
From an early age, Gioacchino had a passion for the art of tailoring, honing his skills with unmatched precision and care. He learned his skills from the local tailor in his town when he was about 12 or 13 years old. He would join him on his front porch where his lessons began. His craftsmanship not only brought joy to those who wore his creations but also reflected his immense talent and attention to detail.
Gioacchino possessed a great sense of humour, which was a hallmark of his personality. He was affectionate, always ready with a contagious smile that could brighten every room. He would always greet you with a smile and a hug and had a natural gift of making you feel like you were his favourite.
Above all, his family meant the world to him. He cherished every moment spent with them, particularly his beloved wife of 64 years, Gaetana. His devoted children, Alfonzo (Dina), and Claudia (Brian). Proud Nonno to Stephanie (Luca), Jack (Rebekah), Quincy and loving Bisnonno to Theodoro. Their love formed the foundation of his life, and they will forever carry the warmth of his spirit in their hearts. His legacy is his family. You will always see a piece of him in each of them.
Gioacchino had a variety of interests that showcased his zest for life. He found solace in gardening, nurturing plants with the same care he devoted to his craft. The joys of wine and grappa making brought him happiness, as he shared these passions with family and friends. In quieter moments, he delighted in sewing and enjoyed connecting with loved ones through FaceTime on his iPad, bridging distances with laughter and love. He spent endless hours facetiming his brother, his nieces and nephews, cousins and friends spread all over the world from Sicily to France to Montreal. He connected with all and found a way to ensure that they knew how much he loved and cared for them. He was the type of man that always took the time to show you love and respect.
Not only was he a family man, he was a man that cherished friendships. Gioacchino had a special gift to turn neighbours and friends into life long family members. He was extraordinary in his love and kindness for all.
He had an immensely special place in his heart for all his nieces and nephews, often reminiscing about the time spent together. His fondness for family gatherings, dances, and celebrations exemplified his belief in the power of togetherness. Gioacchino’s spirit will continue to dance in the memories of those who knew him, especially his cherished family in Montreal. Where he would spend countless 6 hour drives to Montreal to spend time with his cousins who were more like brothers and sisters to him.
Gioacchino Romanello leaves behind a legacy filled with warmth, laughter, and an unwavering love for his family, who will forever hold him dear as they navigate life in his absence. He will be found in every heart he touched, in every memory he created and in every funny moment that he gave us. His imprint in life will remain with all he has ever touched always. He will be cherished and missed.
