Loreto Gemmiti

February 5, 1932 — December 16, 2024

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Loreto Gemmiti. Loreto was born on February 5, 1932 in Sora, Italy and died peacefully on December 16th, 2024, at the age of 92. Loreto spent his final days at home surrounded by the people he loved most. On his last day Loreto summoned close family and spent his last evening with his wife of 67 years.

1n 1957, Loreto married the love of his life Santina and soon moved to Canada in search of a better life. Like many immigrants of his generation, he arrived by boat landing at Pier 21. He settled in Toronto and began a beautiful life with his wife. He had two children and created a happy and prosperous future for his family. He worked hard for many years in construction until he retired at age 60.

In 2014 after the tragic death of his son Tony, Loreto endured tremendous sadness while supporting Santina through unbearable grief and her subsequent Alzheimer's diagnosis. Loreto became the ultimate protector and caregiver to his wife. In recent years, Loreto looked forward to spending time with family and friends and weekly visits from his cousin Vincent Gemmiti, sharing his favourite glass of vermouth and reminiscing.

His family were overwhelmed at his capacity for strength, sharp wit, good humor, calm and even-temperedness. He was incredibly kind, humble and modest. Due to these wonderful qualities, he will always be remembered with love and respect.

Loreto is predeceased by his son Tony (Mary). He leaves behind his loving wife Santina, his daughter Paola (Tony Bagnara), his grandchildren Michael (Kathleen), Robert (Harrison), Giampiero , Stefano and his great grandchildren Darcy and Mia. Loreto will be sadly missed by many family members and friends both in Canada and Italy.

The family wishes to thank the incredible caregivers who continue to support Santina: Cheche, Linda, Marietta and Dr. Forcina.

We will miss Loreto deeply. We will find overwhelming comfort in the memories of joy, happiness, laughter, and a life truly well lived.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Loreto to the Alzheimer's Foundation and The Multiple Myeloma Foundation
