It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Brancatella, our beloved wife, mother, Nonna and Bisnonna, who departed this world on February 6, 2025, in Brampton, Ontario in her 85th year leaving behind a legacy of hard work, sacrifice and cherished memories. Born on January 3rd 1941, in the Calabrian village of San Vito Sullo Ionio, Catanzaro, Italy, Maria was happiest when surrounded by the laughter and love of her family. Whether it was the simple joy of gatherings at their beloved cottage on Lake Simcoe or the bustling activity of holiday celebrations, her heart flourished in the moments spent with those she held dear. Her nurturing nature extended beyond familial bonds; every meal she prepared was infused with a love that could only be captured by the warmth of her kitchen. She took great pride and pleasure in preparing traditional Calabrese meals for her family and in passing those skills on to her children. Maria enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, where she could cultivate life in its many forms. Many vegetables from Maria’s garden won ribbons at the Brampton Fall Fair. As a loving wife to Vito, her husband of 65 years, and a devoted mother to her children, Joe (Kim), Sam (Lori), Vito (Julie) and Rosie (Shawn), Maria's heart radiated through her family. Loving Nonna to Vito, Josh (Christina), Alex (Jaime), Jenna, Nicolas (Arlana), Curtis and Evan. Proud Bisnonna to Lincoln, Faith and Abigail. The laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren echoed in her heart, reminding her daily of the beauty of lineage and the joys of family life.
Maria’s visitation will take place on February 13, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by her funeral service at 12:45 PM, all held at Westminster Funeral & Reception Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The final farewell, an interment at Westminster Cemetery & Mausoleum, will occur at 1:30 PM. Though she has left this earth, Maria Brancatella will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of her family, a loving presence woven into the very fabric of their lives. In every shared meal and every garden bloom, her spirit will continue to grace their gatherings, reminding them of the beauty she brought to the world and the love that will endure beyond her physical presence.
In Lieu of flowers, and in memory of Maria, please consider donating to CAMH or Parkinson's Canada.
