Mario Fortino, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 85. Born on February 20, 1939, in Donnici Inferiore, Cosenza, Italy, Mario lived a life full of devotion, warmth, and joyful memories.
Known for his unwavering commitment to his family, Mario was a good provider who consistently put the needs of his loved ones above his own. He dedicated his life to nurturing the bonds of family, ensuring that his wife, Maria, and daughter, Sandra, always felt cherished and supported. His love extended to his granddaughter, Mia, with whom he shared countless playful moments and adventures, creating lasting memories that will be held dear by her.
In addition to his family life, Mario cultivated numerous passions that brought him joy. He had a green thumb and often spent hours tending to his vegetable garden, proudly sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. Music held a special place in his heart; he loved playing the guitar and often serenaded those around him. Bike riding and visiting neighbours and friends brought him a sense of freedom, while playing cards and dancing showcased his zest for life. Mario’s Vespa rides through the picturesque landscapes of Italy were cherished moments that reflected his love for adventure and helping others.
Mario is survived by his devoted wife, Maria, who stood by his side through the many chapters of their life together. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Sandra, and his adoring granddaughter, Mia, who will forever carry his spirit with them. He is also survived by his sister, Lidia (late Alfredo), and special sister-in-law Ida (late Ignazio), with whom he shared a special bond that transcended distance and time.
Mario is predeceased by his siblings, Ignazio and Gina. He will always be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and many family members and friends.
