Reuben "Sylvester" Charles

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reuben Sylvester Charles - a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Sylvester, fondly known as "Syl", was born on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Antigua, B.W.I. He migrated to Canada over 55 years ago and called it home until he passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, in Toronto, Canada.

Sylvester was preceded in death by his father, Garnett Charles, mother, Rosie Payne, daughter, Gloria Joseph, and son, Leon Charles. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Jean, and his six children: Claude, Josephine, Llewellyn, Claxton, Claudette, and Lauchland. Daughters-in-law: Paulette, Ilyasah and Chauna. Sylvester was also a proud grandfather to twenty-two grandchildren: Nicole, John, Kamari, Erian, Kadari, Nkomo, Dorell, Joleen, Dino, Latara, Omari, O’Dane, Kory, Nicole, Leon, Melissa, Monique, Denise, Nieka, Keisha, Delia, and Prince, and twenty-nine great-grandchildren: Hannah, Devon, Davyon, Xavier, Jameel, Sheneka, NeKeisha, Demitrius, Nikolette, Noel, Kemari, Brenna, Shamani, Dorell, Gabriel, Jahnayra, Jah'nayla, Lakiya, Adonis, Amara, Amiyah, Ayden, Kyrie, Kory, Keihari, Dijour, O'Ryiah, O'Myiah and O'Dane. His surviving siblings are Carroll Henry and Vicky Hodge.

Sylvester was not only a loving family man but also a man of faith and a pillar of his Seventh-Day Adventist Church community. He was deeply committed to his faith and demonstrated his love for God through his actions. Sylvester was also a highly skilled and enthusiastic mechanic who was known for his exceptional work and dedication. His commitment to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who knew him. Sylvester's unwavering integrity and generosity left a lasting impression on his community.

Sylvester's love for his family was not just a part of his life, it was his life. They were his pride and joy, and he always put them first. He demonstrated a love that knew no bounds. His warm smile, kind heart, and gentle spirit will be forever missed, but his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the healthcare providers who provided exceptional care during his final days.

The funeral service to celebrate Sylvester's life will take place on Monday, May 13th, at 10:00 AM at Westminster Funeral and Reception Centre, located at 5826 Bathurst Street, Toronto, Canada. The service is open to all who wish to pay their respects. Sylvester will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
