Rosina Filippelli

December 25, 1938 — March 30, 2025

Markham

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rosina Filippelli, affectionately known as Rose, who left us on March 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her children. Born on December 25, 1938, in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, Rose led a life full of love, laughter, and the warmth of family and friends.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Rose's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her sons, Frank and Tony, and daughters, Anna and Diana. She was welcomed into the hearts of her beautiful daughters-in-law, Oksana and Deanna. As a grandmother, she adored her grandsons, Michael and Christopher (Courtney), and her loving granddaughter, Daniella; and as a great-grandmother, she cherished her time with Jace, Blake, and Nash.

Rose endured her final months with grace, leaving behind memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of her loved ones. She joins her beloved family members who predeceased her, including her father Domenico Petrungaro, mother Rosaria Petrungaro, brother Santo Petrungaro, brother-in-law Giovanni Torchia, and her dear son-in-law Michael Peralta.

Rose leaves behind her sister, Ida Torchia, and sister in law Maria. She will be deeply missed by her cherished lifelong best friend of over 60 years, Lina with whom she shared the love of ballroom dancing and daily conversations.

Rose’s journey was one of resilience and joy. She worked as a chef at a banquet hall and also spent many cherished years at bakeries, where she prepared delectable food for hot tables. She took immense pride in her culinary skills, finding delight in sharing her creations with others, always hoping to see the smiles on faces as they enjoyed her meals. Her loving spirit extended beyond the kitchen, as she was also known for her great sense of humor and warmth that made everyone around her feel at ease.

In her leisure time, Rose found joy at the casino, where the thrill of the game brought a sparkle to her eyes. She also cherished evenings filled with laughter and camaraderie as she played rummy Q with friends in her building, and poker into the wee hours with her beloved poker buddies—Gina, Pino, Mary, and Angela (Hela). These moments were the essence of her spirit, showcasing the joy she found in companionship and the game.

Despite the love that surrounded her, Rose faced challenges with unyielding strength and showed her tenacity when she battled breast cancer, emerging as a survivor, a testament to her courageous spirit.

If so desired donations can be made in memory of Rosina to Heart & Stroke Foundation.
