Terry Phyllis Caranci-Rea passed suddenly the morning of Thursday, November 21, 2024. At the age of 78 years, Terry lived a full life. Although she had suffered health issues, which significantly impacted her life style the last 2+ years, she endured day to day with grace.
Born May 26, 1946 as Filomena Caranci to parents Domenico Caranci and Agata Romano, Terry’s life began in the small Italian hilltop village named Castelpizzuto. She immigrated to Canada, arriving in February 1957, making the voyage alongside her mother and older brother Mike, to meet up with her father and older sister Mafalda. Terry immediately attended school upon her arrival to Toronto.
As a young adult, Terry searched employment landing her first job as a sales clerk in a clothing department store on Eglinton Ave, walking to work to complete weekend shifts. Terry’s employment, with the City of Toronto, set up her career for what would result a total 40 + years of service. Along the way, Terry worked and studied hard to obtain accreditations that allowed for promotions and new job designations. Her job responsibilities were held with the utmost professionalism and commitment. Her department managers and licensing commissioners could rely on Terry to keep on top of matters with efficiency and accuracy. In 2008, the City of Toronto, under the organization of her managers and colleagues, surprised Terry with the then largest ever retirement party granted an employee. A bitter sweet outcome for Terry for it was known she was happiest at work surrounded by fantastic people, with many she formed long-lasting relationships. An honourable and true friend she was till the end.
Happiness for Terry included going to the gym daily, participating in the Castelpizzuto Social Club community and spending time with her family. Terry was always willing to offer a helping hand or listening ear to anyone in need. She was generous with gift giving and joyfully engaged with family and friends at gatherings, not afraid to have a fun time and at times initiating the fun.
Terry’s presence will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Her legacy of dedication and grace will live in our hearts forever.
If so desired donations may be made in memory of Terry to a charity of choice.
